The Roundtable is hosting a panel discussion with Bloomberg Television and News personalities: Dominic Chu, Nathaniel Baker, and Cristina Alesci. Gary Fishman, of Anreder & Company will be moderating.
Historically, the hedge fund industry has received very mixed coverage from the media. Some reports highlight the benefits of alternative investment strategies for investors and the capital markets, while other coverage portrays the industry as a group of greedy villains. As one of the leading global media outlets, Bloomberg covers hedge fund managers and the industry quite closely. In a lively Q&A with our moderator and audience, these three personalities will discuss the challenges and opportunities hedge funds regularly confront with the business media.
At this event, the Roundtable will be selling raffle tickets for a chance to win either an iPad 2 or an executive office chair by Steelcase. The proceeds of these ticket sales will be donated to Hedge Funds Care which is a non-profit organization whose sole mission is to prevent and treat child abuse. Hedge Funds Care has challenged the Roundtable to raise $35,000 over a 12-month period. The money raised at this event will go towards meeting this goal.

Alternative Thinking About Investments - A Contrarian Solution to the 0-3-5 Problem
May 26, 2011
Mark W. Yusko, CEO & Chief Investment Officer
Morgan Creek Capital Management, LLC
One of the biggest challenges facing investors today is the uncertainty regarding whether a traditional portfolio of stocks, bonds and cash can deliver the level of real returns that investors have come to expect and need to meet their return objectives. For example, the high single digit returns that endowments need to meet real spending requirements, pensions need to meet liabilities, or individuals require for funding their retirement have all been called into question. With cash at 0%, bonds yielding 3% and stocks projected to make 5%, the current environment has further reduced the chances of meeting these investment objectives. Investors have also been critical of traditional asset allocation modeling and its implementation as most analytics used for asset allocation rely on historical returns, volatilities and correlations, all of which can be flawed when used to project the future. Going forward, success will require a profound change in investment strategy and alternative thinking will be necessary to meet investors’ objectives in 2011 and beyond. Mr. Yusko will present a provocative discussion about how to unlearn what you have learned and get ready for the challenges ahead.
Mr. Yusko is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Morgan Creek Capital Management, LLC, a registered investment adviser formed in July 2004 to provide investment management and advisory services based on the University Endowment Model of investing to wealthy families, individuals and institutional investors. Morgan Creek currently has $10 billion in assets under advisement in non-discretionary accounts, discretionary funds and joint ventures.
